Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBSC) of AIIMS Kalyani was constituted on 22/09/2023 by the competent authority in compliance with “Rules for the manufacture, use/import/export and storage of hazardous microorganisms/ genetically engineered organisms or cells, 1989” notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Government of India under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986”

Functions:
IBSC will conduct onsite evaluation, assessment and monitoring of adherence to the biosafety guidelines with overall oversight of the regulatory process, at the institutional level.
The responsibilities of the committee include-
- To ensure all projects being carried out at AIIMS Kalyani adhere to the guidelines in respect of genetically modified organisms (GMOs)/living modified organisms (LMOs)/organisms of Biosafety significance (infectious agents referred to as IAs hereafter) and rDNA materials in line with Rules, 1989 and guidelines issued by DBT from time to time.
- To ensure proper disposal of biological hazardous wastes is carried out at AIIMS Kalyani.
- To meet regularly (at least twice a year) to review the ongoing activities in the Institute and provides yearly reports to DBT.
