Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC)


About Us:
The Hospital Infection Control committee (HICC) was formed on 29/01/2022 which was later reconstituted on 23/09/2023.  The Medical superintendent, Prof. Ajay Mallick and HOD
Microbiology, Prof. Ujjala Ghoshal took a lead role in setting up of HICC.  Dr Mugunthan M, faculty from Department of Microbiology was appointed as the Infection control officer.

COMPOSITION:
HOSPITAL INFECTION CONTROL AND PREVENTION (HICP) UNIT: Hospital Infection Control and Prevention (HICP) Unit of AIIMS Kalyani is the multidisciplinary consortium encompassing faculties from all domains of the Hospital with a common goal to prevent and control the infections. The following are the members of Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC), AIIMS Kalyani –

FUNCTIONS: The HICT (HOSPITAL INFECTION CONTROL TEAM) implements the activities of hospital infection control programme like –

  1. Training and Educating nursing officers, MBBS students, interns, residents and other staffs about principles of infection control and improves individual attitude towards Infection Control.
  2. Surveillance: Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI) Surveillance- Develops a system for identifying, reporting, analysing, investigation and controlling hospital acquired infections. & Environmental Surveillance (Air, Water, Surface- OTs/ICUs and other high risk area)
  3. Disinfectants: To check for sterilization & disinfection practices in AIIMS Kalyani and In-use test of disinfectants
  4. Outbreak Investigation: Continuous surveillance of infections for early detection of outbreak and Surveillance of any community outbreak to prevent spread within the hospital amongst health care workers.
  5. Auditing: HICC will conduct regular audits for various aspects such as – Hand Hygiene audit
  6. Needle Stick Injury Reporting System
  7. Monitors the proper use of antibiotics, develops antibiotic policies and recommend remedial measures when antibiotic resistant strains are detected.
  8. Prepare the manuals for hospital infection control as well as antimicrobial guideline and review and update hospital infection control policies and procedures from time to time.
  9. Meets regularly not less than once a month and as often as required.
